Don't Dress for Dinner
A restored French farmhouse reimagined as both romantic getaway and comedic trap, using exposed timber beams, textured plaster, and a tightly organized layout to support farce.
A Farmhouse for Farce
Designed for Don't Dress for Dinner at Okoboji Summer Theatre, the scenic concept reimagined a restored French farmhouse as both romantic getaway and comedic trap. The architecture was rooted in exposed timber beam work, textured plaster walls, and a grounded palette that suggested age, authenticity, and rural charm.
Doors, Sightlines, and Precision
Farce relies on clarity of movement, so the layout prioritized clean sightlines, purposeful door placement, and layered depth to support the rapid entrances and exits central to Marc Camoletti's script. The beam grid became both a visual anchor and a compositional tool, helping define playing areas without overcrowding the stage.
A Floorplan for Escalation
Close collaboration with the lighting designer and technical director ensured the timber details caught light with warmth, adding dimensionality without overpowering the actors. The result was a scenic design that supported the intricate humor and tangled relationships at the heart of the production, elegant, grounded, and engineered for precision timing.
