Opening Night: Romero at University of Missouri

Romero — University of Missouri-Columbia, 2025

April 23, 2025 — We opened Romero tonight at the University of Missouri, and it’s a haunting, beautiful first performance. This story—by Xiomara Cornejo and directed by Dr. David Crespy—demands a space that breathes memory, faith, and rupture.

I designed the set to feel both sacred and fractured: a cruciform arch, a fractured platform, and a star-marked floor holding space for grief, ritual, and collective remembering. There’s puppetry, projections that shift between archival footage and abstract visuals, and a texture that moves from grounded to spiritual in the blink of an eye. Tonight, those elements finally came alive.
