Assisting My First Off-Broadway Show — The Fears (April–May 2023)

April 25, 2023 — We began previews for my first Off-Broadway production, The Fears, assisting scenic designer Jo Winiarski. Her leadership and artistry shaped not only the aesthetic world of the play but also my understanding of real-time collaboration in a professional setting.
The Fears premiered at the Irene Diamond Stage at the Pershing Square Signature Center with previews starting April 25, 2023 and its official opening on May 18, 2023. The production was written by Emma Sheanshang, directed by Dan Algrant, and produced by Steven Soderbergh, with a creative team that included costume designer David C. Robinson, lighting designer Jeff Croiter, and sound designer Jane Shaw.
Working under Jo’s mentorship gave me firsthand insight into the pace and precision of Off-Broadway design. Jo’s career spans Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional theatre, and assisting her reminded me that scenic design is as much about communication and collaboration as it is about creating spaces.
